West Chiltington

Neighbourhhood plan

The WCNP is nearing completion and a draft plan.  Neighbourhood Plans were introduced

by the Localism Act which came into force in November 2011.

The West Chiltington Parish Neighbourhood Plan (WCNP) establishes a vision for the

evolution and long-term sustainability of West Chiltington Parish and village over the period to 2031. It has been compiled by local residents and the Parish Council.

The West Chiltington Parish Neighbourhood Area covers an area of 6.69 sq. miles (17.3 sq.km) that extends six miles north to south and an average of one mile east to west, located towards the southern end of Horsham District and just north of the South Downs National Park.

The WCNP generally accords with the strategic aims of two Local Planning Areas (LPAs):

  • Horsham District Council (HDC), which covers the whole of the Neighbourhood Plan Area including the main settlement areas of West Chiltington Village and West Chiltington Common with nearly 1600 households,

  • The South Downs National Park (SDNP), which covers an extremely small part of the Neighbourhood Plan Area.

  • West Sussex County Council is the authority for minerals. Its minerals plan is thus also relevant.

The Neighbourhood Plan Area is predominantly rural. As well as the main settlement areas, more isolated communities in Gay Street and Broadford Bridge are included. (see Fig 1: The Neighbourhood Area).

Neighbourhood Plan meetings are held the second Monday of each month, at St Mary's Church Hall, West Chiltington, at 7.30pm. If you are interested please go along to their meeting so you can have your voice heard on what kind of village you want in the future.
